Frode Nyvold

Frode Nyvold is a folk singer, anthropologist and pedagogue. He is senior lecturer at the Humanities, Sports and Education Sciences. Department of traditional art and folk music.

In addition to working with Norwegian traditional music, he has done fieldwork in France and Hungary. Music, identity and communication have been theoretical topics in fieldwork and in written work.

In the study of folk music, he teaches singing and two lines and has cultural policy and cultural history as his main theoretical subject.

His latest CD, was released in December 2019: Soldiers and Honest Sailors. With a few exceptions, the starting point is also this time a folk singing tradition in Agder. The source material is often taken from archive material preserved at the Agder folk music archive. Some of the material has been collected through our own efforts.

The lyrics sometimes point to a local anchorage, but at the same time give the impression that many of these songs have been traveling. Some are typical pennies. We find elements of foreign influence - here we hear both Danish, Swedish and different Norwegian dialect forms in the same visa.
