Swinging aisles

Svevngangar is a Bislett-based folk trio. With instruments such as langeleik, key harp and an old piano, they are representatives of the growing genre Nordic Folk. Frontman Jo Hegle Sjøflot has a complex musical past; both from the indie band Faircastle Four, and with their own compositions at the Oslo International Church Music Festival. Now he has teamed up with singer and key harpist Marte Gautneb and multi-instrumentalist and composer Kjetil Schjander Luhr.

Svevngangar's music is written by Sjøflot, and the lyrics are mostly taken from the towering figures in Nynorsk poetry, among others Arne Garborg, Olav Aukrust and Olav H. Hauge.

The songs are about longing, love and death. But if the trio has a penchant for world fear in Nynorsk costume, this is balanced with musical immediacy and clear melodies. These are songs you should be able to sing along to!
