"You can smell burnt gumbo from this band playing Cajun music like they were bottled on brackish water from Louisiana."
— Mode Steinkjer, Dagsavisen
Bergen Mandolinband is led by folk musician Olav Christer "Laffen" Rossebø and author and musician Gaute Sortland. Olav Christer has studied American folk music for many years with study trips and tours in the USA, with a particular focus on Cajun music from Louisiana. The traditional music is combined with solid Norwegian lyrics written by vocalist and author Gaute Sortland, and thus the music becomes a mixture of the best of Cajun country and the worst of Western Norway. Dark, sorrowful and distinctive. The band has also signed a number of their own songs.
Steve Riley is considered by many to be the world's foremost Cajun accordionist. Already in his early teens, he toured with Cajun legend Dewey Balfa, and later collaborated with artists such as Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, Elvis Costello, Willie Nelson, Paul Simon and Doug Kershaw. Steve Riley is also an outstanding vocalist and fiddle player.
We are proud to present Steve Riley in Norway for the first time! The concert will be a mix of music from Bergen Mandolinband's new album and Steve Riley's large repertoire of traditional Cajun music.
In addition, we offer real southern food!
