Hooray, we're extending the late summer a little more after the Farsund Folk Festival in August, and giving you a reunion with the fine Frøkedal & Familien, in the autumn's first FOLK at Backes!
Frøkedal & Familien have made a name for themselves with their distinctive folk pop that is close to both rock and folk music. On 7 June, the album STAY will be released - a musical antidote to wanderlust, restlessness and the nagging anxiety of missing out, if the band themselves are to be believed.
However, you should not miss the concert at FOLK at Backes. Here, Frøkedal & Familien will present new and old hits in full family format. The band will, apart from Frøkedal himself, consist of Olav Christer Rossebø (fiddles, mandola), Selma French Bolstad (fiddles, vocals), Erlend Ringseth (keys) and Elisabeth Mørland Nesset (drums, vocals).
About the album:
With STAY, Frøkedal has dug deep into domestic musical treasure chests, created all-singing rock and melded pure pop songs seamlessly with asymmetrical pols rhythm. STAY is about those who stay, about daring to believe that what can make us happy may not be somewhere else - but right here, right now. It's an album about love and pain, roots and community.
"This is Anne Lise Frøkedal at her most uncompromising, and at her best, most epic, rough and most beautiful, where her own guitar tears with sharp strings from rock history through prog rock, country and Americana and into the British 90s sphere where you more than guess the outline of a PJ Harvey at his rockiest." (Dagsavisen's Geir Rakvaag about the first single, Old Mistakes, grade 6/6)
Frøkedal & Familien have received warm reviews in The New Yorker and The Sunday Times, have played live on BBC Radio 6 and received two Spellemann nominations. They have also had a taste of the arena format, as a warm-up for A-ha and Madrugada in Oslo Spektrum. Recently they toured England as special guests for Scottish Teenage Fanclub.
Frøkedal & Familien have also made a songbook. There they write at the beginning: "Music is a unifying force that gives us all access to the extended spectrum of emotions, memories and visions. That's why we put all the cards on the table here, so that anyone who wants to can get closer to these songs - or even play them themselves."
